The old bivouac was exposed at the Majestic and will soon be installed at the Alpine Museum. Built in 1925 and renovated in 1966, the bivouac which could accommodate three people was a Now, the new Périades Bivouac is ready and it will be helicoptered on 20 August 2020.Located at the impressive altitude of 3421 m (11223 ft), the little cabin has a rich history.However, in August 2019 the mountains crumbled and the hut collapsed, because of global warming.Having suffered from its foundation, building a new bivouac was the right choice.Back in August 2019, almost everyone mobilized themselves to help recover the Périades bivouac: the town hall of Chamonix, the FFCAM, the Chamonix Mont-Blanc helicopters, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix, Ludovic Ravanel (researcher at CNRS) and many mountain guides.Thus, a call for donations was launched to allow partial financing of helicopter rotations, the renovation of the cabin and the strengthening of the platform via equipment that will secure the cabin.The objective was to collect 800 euros (712 £), but, amazingly, people from all over France donated a total sum of 14,230 euros (12,678 £).Thus for next summer, another bivouac will be rehabilitated, that of the Tour Rouge at Grépon.
The new bivouac will be helicoptered by Pascal Brun on 20 July.
Alpe d'Huez has an extensive ski area and when the snow is good there are plenty of runs for all levels of skier, including the longest black run in the Alps - a thigh burning 16km in length. Alpe d'Huez has some good dining - for genuinely tasty fare try the The Cremaillere, P'tit Creux (quite pricey), Genepi, Pomme de Pin. Factor in the lack of ski bums here (compared to more prestigious resorts) who normally ski out fresh powder in a matter of hours and you have a ski area which, on a powder week, will keep on giving great lines day after day.Alpe d'Huez is not short of restaurants varying from high quality to cheap and cheerful but generally they are cheaper than some of France's other premier resort restaurants, so don't worry if you tire of the food in the chalets or hotels.
It is a ledge which is much smaller. Chalet Ski Holidays The Plage des Neiges at the top of the nursery slopes is the best place for beginners. For pizzas and pasta L'Origan and Pinocchio are well recommended. Smithy's gets quite rowdy later on and the Yeti hosts some great live bands. The resort centre of Alpe d’Huez itself with excellent facilities including sports centre, cinema, ice rink and outdoor heated pool, is only 10 minutes’ (approx.) Level of Skier/Boarder Jeux Out of period. If you can get over the fact that Alpe d'Huez is neither particularly stylish, nor very attractive to look at then it really is a great ski resort.
